Reneesgotzip Headlines the $90,000 C.E.R.F. Stakes
On the closing day card at Del Mar on Wednesday, a field of nine fillies and mares will line up to compete in the 21st edition of the $90,000 C.E.R.F. Stakes. The race will be run at six furlongs over the synthetic main track.
Headlining the field at morning line odds of 5-2 is synthetic specialist Reneesgotzip who will take one final tour of the Del Mar synthetic surface before the track switches back to conventional dirt for 2015. The five-year-old daughter of City Zip, trained by Peter Miller, will be making her second start of the year and will have Edward Maldonado in the irons. A seven-time career winner, six of those victories have come over synthetic surfaces. She will break from the inside post and won the C.E.R.F. Stakes in 2012.
Top Kisser making Del Mar debut
Second choice on the morning line at odds of 5-2 is Top Kisser for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. The California-bred daughter of Old Topper will be making her first start at Del Mar after competing recently on the fair circuit. Elvis Trujillo has been named to ride the five-year-old mare and the pair will break from post two. She debuted on synthetics at Hollywood Park in 2012 and has had a recent bullet workout over the synthetic track at Golden Gate.
Belle de Luna (FR) returns off year-long layoff
Also in the field is longshot Belle de Lune (FR) who will be making her first start of the year for trainer Tom Proctor. She was last seen finishing second in the Daisy Cutter Handicap on the turf at Del Mar in August of 2013. Drayden Van Dyke will be aboard the five-year-old daughter of Sky Chief and will carry the colors of Glen Hill Farm. The pair will break from post position seven as she goes for her fourth career win.
