A loaded day of stakes races on Saturday at Laurel Park kicks off with the $100,000 Smart Halo Stakes. The six-furlong contest has drawn a field of seven two-year-old fillies.
Headlining the field as the 6-5 morning line favorite is Overprepared for trainer Todd Pletcher. Purchased in March for $310,000 by Repole Stable, the bay filly is from the first crop of stallion Quality Road. She broke her maiden at first asking at Belmont Park over a field of eleven rivals by 3 lengths. Jose Ortiz, Jr. will be in the irons and they will break from the rail for her first try against stakes company.
E Dubai's Humor untested on a fast track
Second choice at 5-2 on the morning line is E Dubais Humor for trainer Donald Barr. The chestnut filly is a perfect two for two, though both wins have come over sloppy main tracks. She broke her maiden in her first start in October and followed that up with a victory over optional claiming competition as the heavy favorite . Forest Boyce will be aboard for the first time and they will break from post position five.
Morning Tale a perfect two for two
Also in the field at 4-1 on the morning line is the undefeated Morning Tale for trainer Kevin McCarthy. A dark bay daughter of Tale of Ekati, she broke her maiden impressively in her debut at Suffolk Downs against male rivals. She defeated allowance company last time out at Parx in a game performance after setting the pace. Kendrick Carmouche will remain aboard from post position two and she will race with Lasix for the first time.
