On Saturday at Santa Anita, the stakes action will kick off with the $200,000 Arcadia Stakes. Carded at one mile on the turf, the Grade 2 event has drawn a field of seven colts and geldings.
Obviously (IRE) tops the competitive field as the morning line favorite at odds of 6-5 and is one of two horses in the race for trainer Philip D’Amato. An eight-year-old gelded son of Choisir (AUS), he has won eleven of his 25 starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. After a disappointing performance in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) in his second start back off of a ten-month layoff, he rebounded to finish a game second in the San Gabriel Stakes (G2). Mike Smith will be aboard from post position six.
Om a rising star in the turf mile division
Second choice at morning line odds of 7-5 is Om for trainer Dan Hendricks. A four-year-old son of Munnings, the chestnut colt has been on the board in eight of his ten starts and is a five-time winner. He has the distinction of being one of only two horses to defeat Triple Crown champion American Pharoah. He was last seen winning the Mathis Brothers Mile Stakes (G2) and will have Gary Stevens aboard from the rail.
Bolo back in action off of seven-month layoff
Also in the field at morning line odds of 4-1 is Bolo for trainer Carla Gaines. A four-year-old son of Temple City, he has been on the board in five of his eight starts and is trying to earn his fourth career victory. He has been on the shelf since finishing seventh in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes (G1) and has been training steadily. Flavien Prat will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
