Merry Meadow Tops Field for $200,000 Inside Information Stakes
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the track will host the 41st edition of the $200,000 Inside Information Stakes. The Grade 2 race, scheduled to be run at seven-furlongs on the main track, has drawn a field of seven fillies and mares.
Merry Meadow headlines the field as the even-money favorite for trainer Mark Hennig. A five-year-old daughter of Henny Hughes, the bay mare has won her last three starts and delivered as the heavy favorite last time out in the Hurricane Bertie (G3). She has had a recent workout in preparation for her second start of the year and will have Javier Castellano in the irons from post position two as she goes for her ninth career win.
Sweet Whiskey going for second graded stakes win
Sweet Whiskey has been tabbed as the second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 for trainer Todd Pletcher. A four-year-old daughter of Old Fashioned purchased for $300,000 as a yearling, she has won two of her eleven career starts and will be trying to earn the second graded stakes win of her career. She has been on the shelf since a fourth-place finish in November and will have John Velazquez aboard from post three.
Classic Point ready for seasonal debut
James Jerkens will saddle Classic Point at morning line odds of 7-2. A six-year-old daughter of Flatter, the seven-time career winner has been training forwardly for her first start of the year. She was last seen winning the Go For Wand (G3) at Aqueduct over a field of ten rivals. Paco Lopez will be back in the irons and they are scheduled to break from post position four.
