Full Field Set for $100,0000 Tenski Stakes
On Monday at Saratoga, three-year-old fillies will take to the turf in the inaugural running of the $100,000 Tenski Stakes. Restricted to fillies who have not won a graded stakes in 2014, the race will be contested on the inner turf course and has drawn a full field of ten with two on the also-eligible list and two entered for the main track only.
The lightly-raced Walk Close has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for turf specialist Christophe Clement. Regular rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. will remain in the irons as she puts her three-race undefeated streak on the line and attempts to earn her second consecutive stakes win. A $180,000 purchase as a yearling, the bay daughter of Tapit has had a bullet workout at Saratoga since winning the Wild Applause Stakes at Belmont Park.
Sweet Acclaim gets a rematch with Walk Close
Second choice at 3-1 is Sweet Acclaim (IRE) who will break from post two under Joel Rosario. Trained by Chad Brown, the Irish-bred daughter of Acclamation (GB) has been on the board in five of her six starts but is winless since her debut effort in Great Britain last summer. She was last seen finishing fourth, beaten two lengths, in the Lake George (G2) at Saratoga. She was third as the heavy favorite to Walk Close in the Wild Applause Stakes.
Chad Brown has a loaded arsenal
Chad Brown will also saddle Hillhouse High at odds of 9-1 from post position nine. A $195,000 purchase as a juvenile, the bay daughter of Exchange Rate has been on the board in all four starts this year and seven of her eight lifetime outings. She debuted at Saratoga as a juvenile last year and was second, beaten a neck, in her second career start. Jose Lezcano was aboard for her win two starts back and has been named to ride again.
