On Saturday at Santa Anita, the final race of the card is the $75,000 Sweet Life Stakes. Scheduled to be run at six and a half furlongs on the downhill turf course, the race has drawn a full field of eleven three-year-old fillies with two additional entered as also-eligible.
Topping the wide-open field at morning line odds of 5-2 is Bobbi Grace (IRE) for trainer Tom Proctor. A sophomore daughter of Big Bad Bob (IRE), she began career in her native Ireland as a juvenile before making her stateside debut in October. She has won two of her five career starts and was last seen winning an optional claiming race at Santa Anita. Gary Stevens will be back aboard from post position two.
Surface switch to the lawn for Maybellene
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Maybellene who will be making her turf debut for trainer Bob Baffert. Purchased for $140,000 as a yearling, the bay daughter of Lookin at Lucky has won two of her eight starts and has won over conventional dirt and synthetics. She is trying to rebound after finishing eighth as the favorite in the Las Virgenes (G1). She will get a jockey change to Martin Garcia and break from the rail.
Mio Me trying to rebound after last-place finish
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Mio Me for trainer Mark Casse. A dark bay daughter of Eskendereya, she was purchased for $130,000 as a yearling and broke her maiden in her second career start two races back. She was ninth and last in the Las Virgenes (G1) last time out and will be switching back to turf after her first attempt on conventional dirt. Corey Nakatani will remain aboard and they will break from post six.
