On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $100,000 Gander Stakes. Restricted to three-year-olds bred in New York, the race will be contested at a mile and seventy yards and has drawn a field of six colts and geldings.
Vincento has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. A sophomore son of Include, he has been on the board in all three career starts and will be trying to earn his third career victory. He is stepping up to stakes competition for the first time and was last seen winning an allowance race at Aqueduct. John Bisono will be in the irons and they will break from post position two.
Governor Malibu trying for first stakes win
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 on the morning line is Governor Malibu for trainer Christophe Clement. A chestnut son of Malibu Moon, he was purchased for $135,000 as a juvenile and is trying to earn the second win of his career. He broke his maiden last time out in his fourth career start but was stakes placed as a two-year-old prior to that win. Manuel Franco will be aboard from the outside post.
Consistent Sudden Surprise looking for third straight
Also in the field at morning line odds of 3-1 is Sudden Surprise, one of three horses in the race for trainer Todd Pletcher. A bay son of Giant Surprise bred and owned by Repole Stable, he has won five of his six starts and is a multiple stakes winner. He is coming into this race off of consecutive wins against stakes competition and will break from post position five under jockey Jose Ortiz as he goes for three straight.
