$75,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Draws Contentious Field of 9
The $75,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint is part of a stakes-heavy card February 7, with a contentious field of nine set to go five furlongs.
3/1 morning line favorite Bold Thunder will break from the rail with jockey Paco Lopez aboard. In his last start, Bold Thunder won the $80,000 Turf Dash at Tampa Downs in gate-to-wire fashion while setting fast fractions. His speed should once again be an asset against a field that may not be able to match strides with the speedy colt in the early stages. Bold Thunder, trained by Patricia Farro, has won 6 of 18 career starts.
El Botas could move forward again
El Botas (6/1) could be the main pace rival to Bold Thunder after winning a $62,000 optional claimer January 4 at Gulfstream sprinting on the turf. The Jorge Navarro trainee earned a career best 92 Beyer Speed Figure for the front-running score en route to winning his fifth race in ten tries. Breaking from post five under jockey EJ Zayas, El Botas should attend the early pace. The four year-old son of Consolidator will be making the third start of his form cycle which often produces any runner’s best effort.
Green Mask should be charging late
Green Mask (7/2) was running well late in the Turf Dash against Bold Thunder while making his first start in nearly seven months, and should improve with the added fitness. The gelding is training well at Palm Meadows for the race for trainer Wesley Ward who connects at a 26% clip with runners making their second start off the layoff.
