$500,000 Cigar Mile Draws Loaded Field of Nine
On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the 26th running of the $500,000 Cigar Mile. The prestigious Grade 1 has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.
Secret Circle, winner of the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) and second in this year’s edition, has been named the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1. Trained by Bob Baffert, the five-year-old son of Eddington has won seven of his twelve starts and is attempting to earn his second career Grade 1. He is winless from three starts this year but does have a pair of seconds and a third-place finish. Joel Rosario will be aboard for the first time from post position six.
Private Zone training forwardly for second Cigar Mile
Second choice at 3-1 on the morning line is the third-place finisher in the Breeder’s Cup Sprint (G1), Private Zone. The five-year-old gelded son of Macho Uno is trained by Alfredo Velazquez and the multiple Grade 1 winner is going for his second victory of the year. He was second in the 2013 running of the Cigar Mile to Flat Out. Since the Breeders’ Cup, he has recorded consecutive bullet workouts. Martin Pedroza will be aboard from the rail.
Itsmyluckyday tries to cap season with G1
Also in the field at odds of 5-1 on the morning line is Itsmyluckyday for trainer Edward Plesa, Jr. The four-year-old son of Lawyer Ron returned this year off of a significant injury and has won four of his seven starts. He was third last time out in the Kelso (G2) behind Vyjack, who he faces again in the Cigar Mile. Itsmyluckyday will have regular rider Paco Lopez aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position two.
