Kentucky Derby 2023: Versatile Mage can do some Derby magic

The $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies features a field of thirteen set to go a mile and a sixteenth on the main track at Fair Grounds Saturday, December 13 in what looks to be an excellent betting race.
Little Miss Protocol is the 3/1 morning line favorite in the race after winning the Magnolia Stakes at Delta Downs in her last start October 31. Since that victory, the Patrick Devereux trainee has worked steadily at Evangeline Downs in preparation for the Louisiana Ladies. In 29 career starts, Little Miss Protocol has nine wins, seven second place finishes, and five thirds for earnings of $728,290.
Tensas Harbor has ultra live look
Tensas Harbor (7/2) was beaten six and a quarter lengths by Little Miss Protocol in the Magnolia, but appears to be ready to give a better account of herself in the Louisiana Ladies after posting an eye-catching bullet work December 6 at Fair Grounds covering four furlongs in 47 2/5 seconds – the fastest of 115 works. Tensas Harbor was beaten just a neck in the 2013 Louisiana Ladies , and should be rolling late for trainer Keith Desormeaux.
Our Quista should get the lead
Our Quista (6/1) won a stakes race in her last start, but that has not raced since August 11. The Al Cates trainee has good early speed, and could take this field a long way if she is fit and ready off the bench. Cates connects with 10% of his starters returning from layoffs of 61-180 days. Our Quista has bankrolled $156,800 in her career.
