The stakes action at Gulfstream Park on Saturday continues with the $100,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Turf. The mile and a sixteenth contest has drawn a field of ten colts and geldings, all bred in Florida, Maryland, New York or Pennsylvania.
Topping the field at morning line odds of 5-2 is Reporting Star for trainer Pat Parente. Bred in Florida, the five-year-old gelded son of Circular Quay is trying to earn his first stakes victory but has hit the board against graded stakes competition. He has been on the board in sixteen of his nineteen career starts and has four victories to his credit. He has been on the shelf since a runner-up effort in the Tropical Turf Handicap (G3) and will have Javier Castellano aboard from post nine.
Veteran gelding Bad Debt back for another shot
Michael Trombetta will saddle the second choice on the morning line, Bad Debt, at odds of 3-1. A veteran eight-year-old gelded son of Grand Reward, the multiple stakes winner will be making his fourth consecutive appearance in the Sunshine Millions Turf. He earned the fifteenth victory of his career two starts back in the Millions Turf Preview and was fourth last out in the El Prado Stakes. Paco Lopez will be back in the irons from post position six.
Iron Power making Florida debut after two wins
Also in the field at morning line odds of 7-2 is Iron Power, a New York-bred gelding trained by Michael Hushion. A gelded son of Mizzen Mast, the five-year-old will be making his first start in Florida after racing exclusively in his home state. He has won five of his seventeen starts and ended his 2014 season with back to back front-running victories. Regular rider Jose Ortiz will be back aboard and they are slated to break from post four.
