Cocked and Loaded Heads Large Field for $150,000 Sanford Stakes

Cocked and Loaded has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 3-1 in the wide open field for trainer Larry Rivelli. A bay son of Colonel John purchased for a modest $16,000 as a yearling, he is undefeated from two starts and will be stepping up to graded stakes company. After breaking his maiden in his debut at Keeneland, he defeated six rivals to win the Tremont Stakes in his next start. Irad Ortiz, Jr. will remain in the irons and they will break from post eight.

Uncle Vinny trying to rebound after Tremont flop

Todd Pletcher will saddle Uncle Vinny as the second choice at odds of 7-2 on the morning line. Purchased for $175,000 as a yearling by Starlight Racing, the bay colt is from the first crop of juvenile champion Uncle Mo.  He is trying to rebound after a sixth-place finish in the Tremont Stakes after breaking his maiden at first asking. John Velazquez will be aboard from the outside post.

Awesome Slew facing a stiff class test

Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is longshot Awesome Slew for trainer Edward Plesa, Jr. A bay son of Awesome Again bred and owned by Live Oak Plantation, he is making his stakes debut after breaking his maiden in his first start at Monmouth Park last time out in a game 1 ¼ length score after contesting the pace. Paco Lopez will be back aboard and they will break from the rail.
